The Arkansas standards appear in its various curriculum framework documents, each of which is subject to revision on a six year cycle. The frameworks cover the topics of Arkansas history, ELA, fine arts, foreign language, math, music, PE and health, science, and social studies. A typical MS Word or Adobe Acrobat copy of a pre-2003 framework contains standards, grade level student learning expectations (K-4, 5-8, 9-12), and selected assessment and instructional ideas. Frameworks developed in or after 2003 offer more detail, especially on a grade level basis. The revision cycle: ELA (2003); math (2004); science, health and PE (2005); social studies (2006); foreign language (2007); fine arts (2008). - California: Curriculum and Instruction

The content standards link leads to web and Adobe Acrobat copies of documents for the arts, ELA, math, science, and social studies as well as to an Acrobat copy of ELL standards. Standards are listed by grade or, when more appropriate, by secondary course. The curriculum frameworks link leads to frameworks for the arts, ELA, foreign language, health, math, PE, science, and social studies in Acrobat format as well as to a number of related documents, including a schedule of framework development. The Curriculum and Instruction page also highlights recently approved as well as draft frameworks. The VSC (or 'Voluntary State Curriculum') combines the earlier Maryland Content Standards with indicators and instructional activities for grades K-8 programs and high school courses in the areas of ELA, math, science, social studies, health, PE, and the arts. - Massachusetts: Frameworks

Standards of Learning documents, available in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat versions by subject area or grade level within subject area, contain k-12 standards and performance indicators in the areas of the arts, computer technology, driver education ELA, foreign language, health, math, PE, science, and social studies. This site also has web versions of the curriculum frameworks for ELA, math, science, and social studies. The state is revising one or two subjects a year. Computer technology is slated for a new adoption in June 2005, with the fine arts up in 2006, foreign language in 2007, and social studies, health, PE, and deiver education in 2008. - Washington: Essential Academic Learning Requirements
Washington's Essential Academic Learning Requirements define K-10 standards in the areas of reading, math, science, writing, communications, social studies, the arts, and health and fitness. Available in both MS Word and Adobe Acrobat format, a typical EALR document lists individual standards along with benchmarks for grades 5, 8, and high school. Separate links to K-10 grade level resources are currently available on line for reading and math and in Word or Acrobat format for reading, math, and science. Writing and communications resources are promised for the 2005-6 school year, social studies and arts resources for 2008-9, and health and fitness resources for 2009-10. - WestVirginia: WV Content Standards and Objectives
Standards, objectives, and performance indicators by grade (K-8) and high school course in the areas of the arts, driver education, early learning, ELA, foreign language, health, math, PE, science, social studies, technology, and vocational education. All standards took effect between 2003 and 2004. All are available in MS Word format, with a few available as Adobe Acrobat documents. - Wisconsin: Wisconsin Model Academic Standards

A typical document contains content standards, benchmarks for grades 4, 8, and 11, and performance indicators for below basic, basic, proficient, and advanced levels.

- National Council of Teachers of English: Standards - The NCTE's section on standards offers a link to its 12 ELA standards along with the opportunity to look at portions of (and, if you so choose, purchase) related books and other resources.
- National Council of Teachers of English: Assessment and Testing - These NCTE policy statements about such topics as the nature of a good assessment (November 2004) and standards for assessing reading (1994) are part of a much wider-ranging set of position papers.
